General George Fanshawe, born 10 August 1789 ; entered the Russian Service= and was received on the Staff 6 March 1807, Under Lieutenant November following ; took pari in the campaign of 181 2 on the French invasion of Russia by Napoleon, and was present at the battles of Witebisk, Smolensk, and Boro- dino (wounded, received the golden sword with the inscription " For bravery "), A.D.C. to General Fowke ; took part in the battle of 'I'arontino same year; present at the storming of the entrenchments of Borissow, in protecting the passage of the Berezina (Order of St. Vladimir with the swords) ; after the battle of Molodec/.no he was commissioned by the Marshal, Prince Koutousoff, to convey to St. Petersburg the trophies taken from the French in that engagement; took part in the campaign of 1813, being present at the battles "of Liitzen, Bautzen and Dresden, and the complete defeat of General Vandamme (wounded, promoted Lieutenant, Cross of St. Anne, 2nd-class, and
